BUNNIES! 

Around our garden beds stands a two foot tall chicken wire fence. Since the rabbits in Michigan can’t actually dig under fences (and don’t jump that high) this has generally been enough fortification to protect our veggies. Imagine my surprise on Friday when I came out to check on the garden and found seven baby bunnies nested in our lettuce. They were painfully adorable.

Now, E and I generally try not to disturb the wildlife with whom we share our backyard. But we also weren’t quite ready to turn the garden over to these guys and their momma for the summer.

After consultation with my friend (who also happens to be a former park ranger of sorts) I bent down our chicken wire fence, put on my protective gear (that is, a baseball mitt) and set about relocating the bunch to nearby cover. Some ran out on their own, while others calmly accepted my offer to provide free transportation.

Hopefully the family quickly regrouped and have a wonderful summer in our yard, outside of the garden fence!
